About the Ascend Amphitheater Nashville
The stunning Ascend Amphitheater is set in the vibrant South Bank neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. Operated by LiveNation, it has quickly become a popular spot for outdoor music, performances, and cultural gatherings.
Since opening in the summer of 2015, this open-air venue has quickly come to prominence. It offers guests breathtaking views of Nashville’s skyline and the serene Cumberland River — with world-class music as the cherry on top. With a capacity of 6,800, including seating and a sprawling lawn area, Ascend Amphitheater has become a destination for music lovers looking for a more unique experience.
The designers have brilliantly integrated Nashville’s natural beauty into the amphitheater’s vibe. Every concert here is an unforgettable event. The venue’s environmental consciousness is a bonus for patrons. Robust sustainability practices, including recycling, composting, and waste diversion, highlight the venue’s commitment to sustaining Music City for generations to come.
The arena attracts an array of musical talent that suits all audiences. For example, 2024’s lineups feature everything from the iconic sounds of the Pixies and Modest Mouse to the country vibes of Billy Currington & Kip Moore. Cypress Hill, Styx, and Avril Lavigne give concertgoers a taste of what’s in store.
There’s something for classical fans, too – the Nashville Symphony often graces the stage. The annual CMA Fest will also take place at the venue, keeping the Ascend Amphitheater at the heart of Nashville’s live music scene.
HISTORY
Plans for this iconic venue were unveiled by then-Mayor Karl Dean in 2013. Positioned at Riverfront Park under the Nashville skyline, the site turned its industrial past into a live entertainment destination. But this wasn’t always the plan. The idea was first proposed on August 27, 2013. At the time, then-Nashville Mayor Karl Dean unveiled plans for the venue which would be placed on the site of the city’s former thermal transfer plant. This was intended to make use of the land as the plant had been phased out in the early 2000s.
Initially, the site was earmarked for First Tennessee Field — a minor-league baseball stadium. However, the project had financial issues, leading to the repurposing of this prime location into the amphitheater we know today.
In 2015, Ascend Amphitheater’s grand opening was marked by performances from Eric Church, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Phish. This impressive early lineup quickly cemented its status in Nashville’s music scene.
Since then, a decade-long partnership between Live Nation, the city of Nashville, and Ascend Federal Credit Union has ensured that Ascend Amphitheater remains a cultural destination to rival the best in Music City.
Today, it is a venue with space for 6,800 spectators (2,300 in fixed seating and 4,500 in lawn seating).
